This is the charter for the Annexcafe Amateur
Radio newsgroup, namely
news://news.annexcafe.com/annexcafe.amateur.radio
The purpose of this document is to publish some
-- but not all -- of the rules governing this newsgroup. Rules may have
to be invented extemporaneously, but I hope not. Above all, use your
common sense. Also, if it falls outside of the server's
guidelines, rules, and acceptable social etiquette, it falls outside of
acceptable traffic for this newsgroup. This newsgroup has me listed as
the owner, but I want everyone here to have fun. Just step outside when
you've gotta smoke, don't drop hot solder on the carpet, and we'll be
fine. :-)
If you haven't subscribed to news://annexcafe.com/annexcafe.announce, I'd like for you to do so. I can't force anyone to, but if I
get too many questions about the rules and guidelines, which are published
every so often there, I might get grumpy. Back in the BBS days, some
BBSes had "newsgroups" (also called conferences, message areas, etc.) that
users couldn't opt out of. This is not the case here, but I think it's a
good idea for everyone to know the "house rules".
Now, down to business. The name of the
group is Annexcafe Amateur Radio, but that in no way means that discussions
are limited to ham radio. In fact, anything vaguely related to radio is
fine, as long as we don't get too carried away on the entertainment
aspect. Topic drift is inevitable, but we should try to keep things
close to the technical side of things. Most of the time.
:-)
As long as we keep it legal, discussions of
CB, FRS, GMRS, and other Part 95 services are fine. Any connection of
amplifiers or "linears" to transmitters should be limited to amateur
radio. In the United States, I believe that the only non-amateur service
permitted to use amplifiers is the LOWFER band, and that's limited to one
watt, anyway. In any case, discussions of scanners, short wave
listening, DX'ing the commercial AM, FM, and television bands, are only a few
of the things that can be discussed here. Like I said, pretty much
anything vaguely related to radio. :-) (And, television is just
radio with a picture.) And, of course, all aspects of amateur
radio.
"For Sale" ads are permitted, as long as
they're not commercial, and don't go against the rules and guidelines of the
server. If things get crazy, we may have to change this.
Forwarding of messages to this newsgroup is
fine, as long as they have something to do with the acceptable topics for the
newsgroup.
Cross-posting to this newsgroup
is fine, as long as such messages have something to do with the acceptable
topics of the newsgroup. BE
CAREFUL where you cross-post to, if you
cross-post from this or any other group. Some groups allow
it, some tolerate it, and some just absolutely do not want
it anywhere near them. You'll find a list of the groups and whether or
not they allow cross-posting in Announce.
Okay, that's about it. Any questions,
comments, ifs, ands, buts, wherefores, how-comes, or why-nots, should be
addressed to me in E-mail. My "Reply-To:" address is valid. Have
fun, teach, learn, and be good. :-)
