When we get older we expect to be able to take a walk on the beach, travel to all of the places we once dreamed about. We hope to sleep in, to enjoy the hobbies we put off learning. But, it doesn't always work out that way.
Instead of sleeping in we may be up at 6:30a.m. cleaning out baby bottles or getting kids ready to catch the bus to preschool. Socks don't match and we've lost a shoe and the energy that we need to make it through the day.
Our lives have changed dramatically and we go from happy to sad in a split second. We are surrounded by dirty diapers, and beautiful paintings filled with a child's imagination. The paperwork is never done, there is always something to sign or read.
What happens next? Each day is a new experience, one that we aren't sure we are prepared for as the doubts creep in. We live on hope that things will change and we can go back to being grandparents again.
The grandparenting newsgroup is a place to share your fears, frustrations, grief and joy of raising children again. There are so many other relatives raising kids and this group is open to all caregivers/family members raising kids.
