Q: Why do you require signups to use newsgroups now?
A: We have found that anonymous newsgroups oftentimes display anonymous behaviours.
We care passionately about the quality of our community, and requiring sign up for access means that a poster to the
newsgroups is accountable for what they post. It also means we can ban troublesome members or spammers. A side benefit
is that it allows us to unify the login across our community services so that your profile on
this website (should you choose to fill it out) is matched with your newsgroup nick.
The information you provide during signup is held STRICTLY confidential and even the Annexcafe Admins don't have access
to it.
Q: How do I change my existing newsgroup setup to log in?
A: If you already have the Annexcafe Newsgroups already set up in Outlook Express, you only
need to change the LOGIN USERNAME and PASSWORD area.
FIRST you need to make sure you have SIGNED UP an account on this website and that you
have validated it by clicking on the validation link that is emailed to you after account signup.
THEN, open up Outlook Express, click on Tools and then Accounts.
In that list, highlight your entry for the Annexcafe newsgroups and click PROPERTIES. You'll see several tabs in the
resulting window. Here are screenshots of the ones you need to deal with:
Once you've set up those settings you should be able to open up all the newsgroups.
Q: How is my account information used?
A: The ONLY information about your signup that is publicly display is your USERNAME (also known
as your nickname or handle). ALL OTHER INFORMATION is strictly private and viewable only by me (Gregory, the sysop of this site).
Your information, including email address, will NEVER be shared with any 3rd party. You will never receive any spam and will only
receive email from US ONLY if you have checked the appropriate link in your signup. This can also be changed by clicking on YOUR ACCOUNT
on the website menu at any time.
PLEASE NOTE: Any information that you fill out in your public MEMBER PROFILE will be viewable by other
members who are logged into the system.
